About Us:
The Woods Run Branch Library was a branch of the Carnegie Free Library of Allegheny. In 1956, these two libraries were incorporated into the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh system, becoming the Allegheny Regional and Woods Run branches. They had remained as separate entities until then even though Pittsburgh had annexed the city of Allegheny in 1907.
The original library building in Woods Run was at 3309 Brighton Avenue. Due to safety and fire hazards, this building was closed on March 11, 1961. Library service was provided through stations located at eight parochial schools and three bookmobile stops. The schools housing library stations were: Annunciation, Nativity, St. Andrew, St. Cyril, St. Francis Xavier, St. Gabriel, St. Leo and St. Leo Annex. Ground was broken on March 15, 1963 for a new building at 1201 Woods Run Avenue. Work was completed in 1964 and the library was dedicated on July 8 of that year.
