Wapato Library

The Wapato Women's Club started the Wapato Public Library in 1906 in the Hub Mercantile Company. In the 1930's, the Wapato Library Club raised money for a library building with events like "Smokers" and the Library Ball. The library was in that building for 57 years, until 1999, when it was moved into a former bank building. It is probably one of the only libraries in the country with a bank vault behind the circulation desk! The cheerful staff, the open floor plan, and the convenient downtown location, plus computer access and the substantial collection, all help to make the Wapato Library a pleasure to visit. The Friends of the Wapato Library incorporated with the state on Nov. 22, 1976 and have maintained an active presence in the library.
