Sunset Park Library

5108 4th Avenue
718-567-2806

Originally called South Branch, the original Sunset Park Library opened to the public on December 9, 1905, on the same site it occupies today. The original two-story, Classical Revival-style building, designed by architects Lord & Hewlett and funded by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, was demolished in 1970 and rebuilt in 1972.

Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) and the Fifth Avenue Committee (FAC), a nonprofit with extensive affordable housing and community development experience, are partnering to redevelop Sunset Park Library. They are proposing to build a new, nearly 21,000-square-foot branch topped by 49 units of affordable housing—including 9 units reserved for victims of domestic violence.
