Branch History

The Mandeville Branch opened in June, 1950 as part of the Library Demonstration project in St. Tammany Parish funded by the State of Louisiana. Initially, the branch was located in the Pugh Building and later it was moved to 2015 Madison Street, near the present location. During 1972, property was purchased on Gerard Street, and a 1,600 square foot branch was constructed. The current building has been significantly renovated and enlarged several times over the years. In 1986, as part of a bond issue approved by St. Tammany Parish voters, the branch was increased in size to 6,200 square feet. During the 1990's, the contemporary style building was enlarged to its present size of 9,000 square feet.
