The Southmost Branch Library opened its doors officially at the Grand Opening on October 8, 2005.  Serving the Southmost district of the City of Brownsville, with a service population of more than fifty thousand, the branch has performed well above initial expectations with tens of thousands of visitors annually.

The facility is twenty thousand square feet with a collection of about fifty thousand items, more than 100 computers providing access to the Internet, online databases, Microsoft Office applications, a large Children's Department with dedicated children's computers,classrooms, a multi-purpose room, study/typing room, and the Friends of the Library Book Store.  

The Southmost Branch Library also has the distinction of being the first library in all of South Texas with a built in, staff operated, full service Cafe facility.  Called the Reader's Mark Cafeâ„¢ which provides fresh kosher Hot Dogs, Fajita tacos, panini sandwiches, salads, grilled chicken sandwiches, coffee, deserts and a whole lot more!
