The new 16,000 square foot library features a main level with nearly 3,000 square-feet of space for the general adult collections, a children's area, study rooms, public computers with Internet access, and a reading area. A 750 square-foot meeting room, large enough to seat eighty people, is available for the community to use. The library offers over 15,000 volumes including bestsellers with short waiting lists, books on tape, books and videos for children, and magazines for all ages to check out. For children, we are thrilled to be able to offer year-round story time. Our annual six-week summer reading program is sponsored by the Solon Women's Club. Children of all ages are invited to participate as they read for prizes. For area adults, the Solon Reading Club is sponsored by the library and meets monthly with reading lists available at the library. We hope to expand our adult programming this year to include several evenings with authors and speakers on local history. The City of Solon and Johnson County provide the annual operating budget, based on circulation figures. At this time, about two-thirds of the annual budget is provided by the county. Friends of the Solon Library provide additional financial support for special projects in the library. They provide matching money for grant applications, sponsor our volunteer recognition program and provide seed money for new collections.
