About Us:
Shelby Area District Library's service area includes a population of 11,377 residents of southern Oceana County. The library has a long history dating back to 1907 when it was formed as a village library. The District Library was organized in 1993 when the Township and Village of Shelby joined together and a library millage for 1.5 mills was passed by voters of the district in 1994. The library also provides services to the residents of Benona, Claybanks, Ferry, Otto, and Grant Townships through annual contracts. Residents in townships not served by the library pay a yearly fee for a library card. If a resident has a MiLibrary Card from their home library, this fee is waived.
