About the Library

The Sand Lake Town Library opened its doors in August, 1987 to serve the residents of the Town of Sand Lake. Located in the 43 Mall, West Sand Lake, in a 1,500 square foot storefront, the library quickly established itself as an important and popular service in the community. Through the efforts of the hard-working trustees, volunteers and staff, the Library was granted its Absolute Charter on June 26, 1992. Rapid growth led to the pronounced need for spacious quarters, and a Building Advisory Committee was appointed in 1992. In June 1999, with the help of hundreds of volunteers, we moved to a much larger location in the new Town of Sand Lake Office Building located at the intersection of Routes 43 and 66 in Averill Park. Formerly the Capital Mutual Insurance Building, the second floor was renovated to become the library's new home. Furnishings and shelving were purchased by the Town, and many local donors including Siena College, the Sand Lake Kiwanis, and the Friends of the Library.

Today, the approximately 4,000 square foot space houses a collection of 32,000 volumes. The Library offers free internet access through Road Runner, wireless internet access, children's programs including Storytime, monthly special programming, and the Summer Reading Program, FAX and copy service; and a monthly book discussion group. As a member of the Upper Hudson Library System, borrowers have access to the holdings of 29 public libraries.
