About Us

The San Pablo Library holds over 35,000 books, DVD's, magazines and tapes and offers materials in English, Spanish & Vietnamese. Strengths include a strong English as a Second Language collection as well as a children's collection that emphasizes San Pablo's cultural diversity. The Library has a long history of serving San Pablo residents. In 1914, the Post Office acted as the library, with a selection of 100 books. In November of 1999, the San Pablo Library moved into its current quarters in the San Pablo Community Resource Center. As part of its International Marketplace development, the San Pablo Redevelopment Agency remodeled what had once been a supermarket in the El Portal Shopping Center to create the 8,000 square foot library. The library currently offers 9 public computers, regular weekly story-times & craft programs, and seasonal events. In October of 2005, the San Pablo City Council and Contra Costa County collaborated to pay for the library to open on Tuesday nights and all day Saturdays.
