The Riverside Public Library began operation in July 1922 in the American Legion Hall on Scott Street. This building had been acquired from the Riverside Trust Company and the library was housed in what had been the vault of the bank. The library was a “station” of the Burlington County Library and at that time every book in circulation was a County book.
Miss Sexton, a popular elementary teacher, worked with a Parent Teacher Association group to start the first library. Miss Kathryn Sexton was the first librarian.
After slightly more than five years in the vault, the library moved into the Pine Building in 1928. After that the library moved numerous times over the years. It wasn’t until 1982 that the library had a permanent home at its present location, 10 Franklin Street, Riverside.
The library automated in 2003 with the help of the Burlington County Library System. At that time the library joined the Burlington County Information Consortium. At the present time the library is fully automated and provides free public access to the internet
