Library History
The first library in Plainfield was opened December 20, 1969. It was housed in the former Orcutt Paint Store on Main Street, just to the North of where the new building stands now. On April 2, 1977, the old library closed to make way for a new library building. On September 3, 1978, the newly constructed library was opened.
The Plainfield Public Library, today, has one librarian, Martina Harper, and lots of people in town, volunteering their time. The present library houses approximately 8,000 books.
