The Pine Bluff / Jefferson County Library System serves the people residing in the 885 sq. miles of Jefferson County, Arkansas. Pine Bluff is the County Seat and is located 40 miles south of Little Rock, Arkansas. An estimated 54,000 people live in Pine Bluff, 6,000 people live in White Hall, located just north of Pine Bluff, 1,000 people live in Redfield, located 20 miles north of Pine Bluff, and another 20,000 throughout the rest of Jefferson County. The Pine Bluff Library was established in 1913 as a Public Library Association with the help of the local Pine Bluff Chapter of the the Daughters of the American Revolution. The Library System's Main Library is located in the Civic Center in Downtown Pine Bluff
The Library System's Collection consists of 190,000 books, videos, DVD's, audiocassettes, microfilm, and other materials. Annually the Library System circulates a quarter million items to the 150,000 visitors who come to the Library. The Main Library has an extensive collection of Genealogy Materials, and over 20 computers for the Public to use, many with Internet Access. While visiting the Main Library, be sure to check out the Children's Library, the Entryway Mural, the Carr Memorial Room, and the Ceramic Bird Collection.
