History:
The Pelham Bay Branch of The New York Public Library opened in 1976 with the fervent support of community leaders who fought to see it become a reality. The branch is a spacious brick building located on the corner of Middletown Road and Jarvis Avenue. It serves a predominantly Italian and Irish community in the Pelham Bay and Country Club sections of the Bronx. Fully accessible to persons who use wheelchairs, the one-story facility houses adult, young adult, children's, and reference collections. A meeting room is available for community group meetings as well as library programs.
