Library History

The Ossipee Public Library was established on March 14, 1899. It was first located in a Center Ossipee house, across the street from the site of the present building.

Between the years 1925 and 1929 branch libraries were opened around the town. Called "small libraries" they were housed in the private homes of citizens and in one general store.

The location of these branches were, Mrs. Young's home in Granite, Mrs. Bisbee's home in Water Village, Mrs. Winkley in the Brown district and the Mountain Store in West Ossipee. Ossipee Corner had its own library so no branch was opened there. Books were left at each location for six months and then swapped out at the main library.
