O'Connell Branch Library
About Us
Some call it the "East Branch," "O'Connell Branch," or the Sixth Street Library. Whatever the name, this branch library is at the heart of the neighborhood both physically and symbolically. The one-room O'Connell library plays an active role as a place where people come for informal, personalized service. From the elder who has lived her entire life nearby to the youngest infant, The O'Connell Branch Library is synonymous with East Cambridge.
Are you intrigued by the idea of polished oak paneling, high ceilings with dentil moldings, oak shelves lining the walls with a rich array of books and other materials, teddy bears and puzzles for young children? Then come pay us a visit any time. You will find a wide variety of activities. These include several story hours for different ages, crafts, toddler sing, special holiday events, potluck dinners, and an English conversation group.
Children often make the library their first stop after school. They are secure and comfortable here, knowing that they can find sources they need for homework assignments, a fun activity, or an encouraging smile from the staff. We know most of our patrons on a first name basis.
