The Northwest Akron Branch Library first opened as the Ayres Branch in 1958 in a house left to the library in the estate of Dr. Floyd F. Ayres whose will left the home, $50,000 and most of his assets to the library. A modern addition doubling the floor space of the building was completed at the rear of the house in October, 1965. The Northwest Akron American Institute of Architects, Akron Chapter, presented the 2004 Design Ward to the Northwest Akron Recreation Center/Northwest Branch Library

Current statistics indicate that Northwest Akron Branch circulated 286,997 items in 2004, and houses a collection of 68,876 items.We are open 6 days a week to meet your needs for education, information and recreation.Our friendly, skilled staff includes a branch manager who is also the children’s librarian, a second children's librarian (together they serve babies through grade 12), three adult services librarians, public service assistants, and student assistants.
