The Northeast Neighborhood Library is the fourth oldest library building in the city still in operation, and was the first public library branch to be built in the District entirely with public funds. Built in 1932, the branch at 330 7th Street, N.E. opened on March 11th of that year.
The Northeast Branch currently circulates around 30,000 volumes annually and maintains several special collections, including information on adult basic education, a college and university collection, a job/career corner, and an African-American reference collection. Programs and services include a film program for adults, adult book discussion group, a family story hour, and a preschool story hour. Other special services provided are computers for children, Books-On-Tape, and a community meeting room.
