North Natomas Library
The North Natomas Library is a joint-use facility serving the North Natomas community, as well as the students, faculty and staff of both Inderkum High School and the Natomas Center of American River College. The library opened to the public on September 13, 2004, and is currently located on the campus of the new state-of-the-art Inderkum High School. A separate 23,000 square-foot facility will be built next to the school when funding becomes available. The library is seeking members to form an affiliate Friends of the Library group to spearhead this effort.
The North Natomas Library features a diverse collection of materials. While offering materials to serve the needs of the high school and community college students, the collection also includes books for children of all ages, recreational and informational reading for adults, magazines, newspapers, and a variety of audio books, CD's and DVD's. In addition to the local collection, items from any of the Sacramento Public Library branches can be delivered to the North Natomas Library, checked out and returned there as well.
Eight public computer workstations offer Internet access, Microsoft Office software, and research databases. These workstations may be reserved in advance with the use of a Sacramento Public Library card. Study areas, a reading area for children, and express self-check out are also featured.
The library offers a variety of programs, including a regular preschool story time and programs for teens, young children, and families. The North Natomas Library is planned to be the heart of the Natomas Education Center, which also encompasses the high school and community college center. While the current facility is small, the staff does not limit service to within the library walls. Librarians partner with local organizations, businesses, and schools to take innovative library services to the entire community.
