About Us

Morristown-Hamblen Library, serving an area of 63,400 residents, has a collection of approximately 71,100 books and periodicals, with access to many others through Inter-Library Loan (ILL). In addition, there are more than 3,300 audio materials, as well as 5,400 video items, 40 wifi hotspots, and 605 microfilmed newspapers. 18 computers with internet access are available for use by the general public. Wireless (Wi-Fi) service is also available inside the library.

Staffing consists of about 20 employees who cover 56 hours of open operation during each week. The full-time staff includes a fully accredited librarian (director), an assistant director/business manager, a circulation manager, an outreach librarian and a cataloger/acquisitions technician. MHL has a dedicated children’s services specialist and circulation staff who perform other indispensable library functions. In addition, numerous volunteers provide essential selfless service to staff and patrons!

Annual expenditures for the library collection total $59,000. Patrons make more than 187,800 visits annually and check out materials 223,500 times. Twenty-seven percent of all check-outs are children’s materials. The library wants community members to discover or re-discover the adventures that can be found on the printed page and/or the digital world through your library.
