History
In May 1938 a few citizens, headed by the late Mr. & Mrs. Claude Beitler, met to discuss the need for and organization of a public library in Sycamore.
In June of 1938 the library opened in a small upstairs room on Main Street. Library hours included Wednesday and Saturday afternoons with a beginning collection of 285 donated books. Board members did all the work, including building the shelving, cataloging and circulation duties. Like the board members of today they did all this work on a volunteer basis.
For its first 8 years of existence the Sycamore Library was a branch of the Upper Sandusky Library.
In 1947 it became the Sycamore School District Library,
In 1951 the library moved to West Seventh Street.
In 1960 the library became the Mohawk School District Library and a new building was erected at the west seventh street site on land donated by Miss Alice Vance.
In 1980 the library opened on a daily basis and Patricia Brown was hired as its first full time director.
In 1984 the library doubled its size.
In June 1998 the present building was dedicated. This once again doubled the library's size.
In 2000 the library became an online member of the Southeastern Ohio Consortium.
