The mexico public library was established in 1964 by mexico's "new century club" and was located in a small rented starefront on main street in mexico .in 1973 it was decided that a new library should be built however no suitable site was located. In 1979 a donation was made to the library which allowed it to be moved to the current location, just a half block east of the original location .the current building originally housed the beginning of grandma brown's beans and it was the family of lulu "grandma"brown who made it possible to have the facility that we have today.about 10 years ago another donation was made to the library that enabled the board of trustees to purchase the building next to the library and renovate for expansion of the library collection into the space .A new childrens reading area was opened in the summer of 1997 and public computer access area was developed in 1998
