About Us :

The Martinsville Public Library was started by the Martinsville Women's Club in 1937. The first books were donated and cataloged by Club members and the location was in one room of the City Building. This building was formerly a church building. In the early 1940's, a City Library was established and moved into a larger room in the same building and a librarian was hired. A Township Library was formed in 1950 and the entire building was leased. On July 1, 1989 the Library became a Public Library District by Resolution of the Library Board and Martinsville Township Board. During the spring of 1990, a referendum was passed adding all the Community Unit C-3 District residents to the Library District. In May 1998 the District Library moved into a remodeled building which is accessible to all patrons.
