Mission Statement

The Madison Public Library is a community center that actively supports the sharing of ideas, literacy, leisure, the love of reading, and an understanding of Madison’s past and present.

Vision Statement

The Madison Public Library strives to enrich peoples’ lives by providing access to the ideas and information of the world.

 To support this vision and mission, the Madison Public Library will provide:

     A collection of current materials in a variety of formats
     Public use of modern information technology
     Timely, accurate information and reference services employing a well-qualified staff
     Support for lifelong educational goals of all people
     A gateway to the resources available through the Internet, electronic databases and interlibrary loan system
     A variety of programs appropriate to different cultural backgrounds and interests
     Encouragement for children to develop a love of reading and learning through the collection and programs
     Print and photographic records pertaining to Madison’s history
     Information on community services, organizations and issues
     Space for meetings of local organizations

All of the above should embrace and support the evolving world of library services and its uses by the citizens of Madison.
