History

The Madeira Branch grew from humble origins as a circulating collection housed in a shop on Laurel Avenue. A new building located at the corner of Euclid and Miami was dedicated on June 13, 1965. Architect Carl Strauss was awarded the Gold Medal by the local chapter of the American Institute of Architects for his design. A remodeling and expansion of the Madeira-Indian Hill-Regional Branch was completed in April of 1993. Notable features of the remodeled building include copper gutters and light shades echoed in a copper hood over the story pit, and a distinctive mosaic of ceramic tiles at the entrance. In January of 2001, the facility was renamed the Madeira Branch Library to better reflect the community it serves.
