History:
In 1935, The State Library Board designated Lorain Public Library as a County Extension Center. The Columbia Branch Library was established to serve Columbia Township with monthly bookmobile service.
After many years of this type of book service, Mr. And Mrs. Calvin Furlong, Columbia residents, decided the community needed a permanent library building and book collection. Through the efforts of Marion King, Lorain Public Library Director, and the Library Board, a building at the northwest corner of Station Road and Route 82 (Royalton Road) was rented. The library opened on Saturday, April 2, 1955.
