Mission:
At the Lindsborg Community Library, it is our mission to provide access to media and services for community residents of all ages for personal enrichment, enjoyment, and education. We especially want to support students at all academic levels and stimulate young children’s interest and appreciation in reading and learning.
History:
The Lindsborg Community Library was founded by a group of far – sighted ladies, who wanted a place for the local children to have a summer reading program. With the loan of 200 books from South Central Kansas Library System, they opened the new library for three months in the summer of 1960. Library card cost each individual 50 cents, books could be checked out two at a time, and kept for only one week. Fines were charged at 2 cents per book, per day. Three hundred and sixteen cards were issued in the first summer. The 200 books that were loaned to the library were checked out 1,050 times that summer.
The new library was such a success the first summer, that a collection of 50 adult books was added in October. By November, 100 more children had been added to the libary card count and an additional 1,000 children’s books had been added to the library collection. By this time, the library was well received by the community and had much community support to establish success.
We now serve the entire community and have more than 30,000 books, movies, magazines, inter-library loan, and free internet access.
