Branch History
Branch Library service in Lacombe began with a branch located in a building on Hwy. 190 near Schaeffer's Gulf gas station in June, 1959. Other early locations included the old First Baptist Church on St. Mary Street in 1960 and the old wooden schoolhouse on St. Mary Street in 1971. In 1972, construction began on a 1700 square foot building on St. Mary Street to house the branch. This building was renovated and slightly remodeled in 1986 as part of a capital improvement plan approved by Parish voters. The branch moved to a new site on Hwy. 190 in 1993. This building (purchased from Portastructure) is constructed in modules and features rotating circular shelves along the exterior walls.
