Knox County Library

120 South Main Street
660-397-2460

The Knox County Library started in the summer of 1936, when a group of women members of two federated clubs met and organized the Knox County Library Association.

The group solicited funds, books and equipment. Extension clubs assisted the county committees and women’s clubs in the different towns. Many books and the sum of $250 were collected and brought to Edina, where the Knox County Court donated a room, including heat, water, lights and janitor service. While awaiting the approval of the government for funds to assist in the operation of the library it was open one afternoon a week with help from high school students.

The Knox County Library became tax supported and part of the Northeast Missouri Regional Library System in 1962. The Vera Beal estate provided funds to purchase the building we occupy today.
