Jerseyville Public Library

105 North Liberty Street

For over 100 years, the Jerseyville Public Library has served the needs of Jerseyville and Jersey County residents. Established in 1894, the Jerseyville Public Library moved into its Carnegie library facility in 1904. With the growth of Jersey County came increased use of the Library, and in 1965 the Library joined the Lewis & Clark Library System, making additional materials available for patrons through the interlibrary loan system.

In 1986, with the assistance of a Build Illinois State grant and a local fund drive, a major expansion of the Jerseyville Public Library was undertaken. Completed in 1987, the Library more than doubled its size, adding juvenile and young adult rooms, an audio visual room, a computer room, a meeting room and kitchen, and providing room for future growth. The Library changed its main entrance from Lafayette Street to Liberty Street and added a new parking lot for patrons. The expansion and renovation also allowed the entire building to become handicap accessible.
