Horseshoe Bend Public Library

#9 Club Road

History:
In 1970 the residents of Horseshoe Bend were served by a bookmobile from the White River Regional Library in Batesville. Next a lending library was started in Hamilton's Drug Store in Diamond B Mall. With the help of the Garden Club, the city made room in the back of the old city hall for the library. In 1974 the library became a "real library" when the present municipal building was erected.

Our library is part of the Izard County Library System which also includes Melbourne and Calico Rock. We all receive a portion of the one-mill library tax from the county plus assistance from our local governments. We are under the jurisdiction of a five-member county library board appointed by the county judge and the Izard County Quorum Court. Horseshoe Bend also has its own seven-member library board appointed by the mayor and city council.

Batesville is the headquarters for the White River Regional Library System which includes all of the libraries in Cleburne, Fulton, Independence, Izard, Sharp and Stone Counties.
