The Hastings Library's majestic river view is due to its location in FultonPark, adjacent to the Municipal Building. The Library was officially organized in 1913 by the Woman's Club. It was originally located in what is now the Hook and Ladder Company building on Main Street. In 1929 it was moved to the second floor of the Municipal Building. In 1963, it was decided that the Library had outgrown this space, and, through the generosity of the Surdna Foundation, who provided funds for construction, and Mrs. Helen Benedict, who provided furniture, the Library moved into its present location in 1966. It has been tax supported since 1964. In 2002 the library was renovated and expanded, thanks to a $1.5 million bond and the generosity of donors in a fundraising campaign. Besides making the building ADA accessible, updating wiring and enlarging community rooms, a beautiful new picture book room for toddlers was added. FultonPark, to the south, was also enhanced with new terraces, benches, tables, and landscaping.

The Library has approximately 60,000 books and periodicals, and audio visual materials. It is a repository of Village documents, including Hastings newspapers dating back to 1929. Our public access computers let you search library catalogs and databases, access the internet, and the Web and use a word processor. Budget, personnel, and policy decisions are made by the five member Library Board, appointed by the Mayor. Hastings-on-Hudson Public Library is a member of the Westchester Library System.
