Mission:
The mission of the Union County Friends of the Library is simple yet vital: to help maintain the high quality of public service which the library has achieved. The Friends recognize that the library lies at the very heart of our community.
About Us:
The Union County Friends of the Library is a volunteer organization, made up of individuals, families, and businesses with one objective in common: to offer support for the programs and services of the Union County Public Library.
When you become a Friend, you have two ways available to help UCPL, namely time and fundraising donations.
But first, why become a Friend of the Library? It is through support of the Friends that events such as the Summer Reading Program, Teen programs, and the Christmas Open House are made possible and even more successful year after year. The Summer Reading Program alone touches the lives of many, if not most, of the children in the community, fostering a love of reading and of the Library during one very special week. The Haunted Library is held every other Halloween, and has become a much-loved and anticipated community event. Friends of the Library serve a vital role in making the Haunted Library a success every time, by raising funds and volunteering to fill various roles that such an event requires.
As a Friend, you receive benefits as well, including purchasing books through the library at discounted rates, and earning free books (yes, free) from the periodic Book Sales by donating your time. You are invited to a members-only preview night before each book sale, and can purchase book bags and other special items at a discount. Businesses receive affordable publicity for showing their support through the Friends, and have the opportunity to give something back to the community which supports them.
As a Friend of the Library you can donate your time. Volunteers are needed and are very much appreciated all through the year. There is no minimum amount of time required, and flexibility is a key factor. It is your involvement which matters, the quality of time spent which makes such a vital difference in the impact made by the Library on the community.
