History

The first organizational meeting of the Friends of the Middletown Public Library was held on January 28, 1980. The purpose of the Friends is to maintain an association of persons interested in literature and libraries; to focus attention on library service, facilities and need; to promote projects of the library; and to stimulate gifts of desirable collections, endowments and bequests; and to foster community support for the library.

The Friends of the Middletown Public Library was determined exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code in 1984. The Friends have sponsored numerous fund raising activities for the library, conduct annual book sales and bake sales, and have generously contributed their time and resources towards the betterment of Library services.

The Friends' membership includes over 200 families, individuals, and businesses who support Library Services and the cultural enrichment of Middletown. The Friends' Board meets monthly at the Library. The General Membership has the opportunity to meet at the Annual Dinner, the Library Book Sale, and other social and fund raising activities.
