Friends of Newtown Library

201 Bishop Hollow Road

As background, the Friends is an all volunteer not-for-profit 501c3 organization. Our purpose is to raise funds to be donated to the library and promote community awareness of the library by offering entertainment and education programs.

The Friends provide funding for nearly all of the children’s programs and host two book sales each year as a major fund raiser.  Our donations have allowed the library to make purchases, including computer equipment, DVDs, and additional books, beyond what the library budget allows.  We also offer a variety of programs, often free of charge, for community members of all ages.  In the first quarter of 2013, we have scheduled pizza and game night, a book talk by a local author, and a quilt demonstration.  Our book sale runs from February 5 – 9 at the library.  Books are available at a rate of $.50 for a paperback and $1 for a hardback.

If you are a library patron, I ask that you consider joining the Friends for modest annual dues of $10/individual or $15/family.  If you’re interested, we’d love your help to participate on one of our committees.  To join, you can find a membership form on the Friends page of the library website (http://www.newtownlibrary.org/page11.html) or at the library.  If you have questions, please contact the friends at friendsofnewtownlibrary@gmail.com.
