Friends of the Library was organized in 1982. It is a
non-profit volunteer group Included are people from all over Polk County, and
even some from outside the county. Both individuals & corporations support the
goals of the Friends. Members believe in the importance of books, the joys of
reading, & the Library as a source of services to the community.
Since its inception, members have worked to enrich library services, providing
for the purchasing of new books, subscriptions to newspapers, special services,
and computer equipment. The Friends support children's programs, staff
education, and other services not provided by the library's regular budget. They
are also volunteers in the library.
Membership dues you pay to join the Friends of the Library are a large part of
funds contributed to the library for special purchases & projects Friends pay
for the subscription to the Houston Chronicle, and help support the Summer
Reading Club. Your contributions enrich & projects at Murphy Memorial Library.
