About Us:
The Friends of Lakewood Public Library are a group of volunteers who raise funds for library programs and services, primarily through seasonal sales of donated books and other materials. With reduced prices on books, magazines, compact discs and DVDs, the sales are a bargain hunter’s dream.
Donations come from multiple sources: individuals, schools, libraries, hospitals, businesses and more. Books range in age from vintage to brand new. Sale proceeds support Lakewood Public Library’s acclaimed programming, including free lectures, concerts, films, youth programs and the library van, which delivers books to classrooms and homebound readers.
The Friends also participate in community outreach programs to organizations that support worthy causes such as early childhood literacy and healthy lifestyles for children.
For a nominal amount, citizens can join the Friends and gain admission to preview book sales, which preceded sales to the general public.
The Friends also sell books online to increase revenue. Reading material has been donated to armed forces personnel serving in war zones. And libraries devastated by floods and other natural disasters have put themselves back together with help from the Friends.
