About Us:

The Freedom Branch Library became a part of the Watsonville Public Library system in 1996. On August 22, 2000, the Freedom Branch Library opened at its new location at 2021 Freedom Blvd, at the corner of Freedom and Airport Boulevards. Previously, the building served as the fire station for the area of Freedom under the Pajaro Valley Fire District. It was purchased from the district by the City of Watsonville in 1998. Soon thereafter, the architectural firm of Noll and Tam was hired to remodel the building as a branch library.

The Freedom Branch has the capacity to hold 15,000 books and other items. The collection includes videos, audiobooks, compact discs, magazines and newspapers. Computers with Internet access are available for public use. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation provided funding for computer workstations with special software for public use. There are quiet study areas, comfortable seating and a landscaped courtyard for varied seating and viewing arrangements at the library. We hope that children and their families will especially enjoy the outdoor seating in the small amphitheater.
