The Fort Myers-Lee County Public Library has been a presence downtown since 1900 and has been open for business in its current facility on Central Avenue since June 18, 1979. The library is home to the Lee County Library System's main collection of legal, business and financial information as well as a complete run of The Fort Myers News-Press and The New York Times on microfilm. Additionally, the facility houses the library system's main genealogy collection and often has volunteer genealogists available by appointment for general assistance.
