The Fayetteville Library began as a part of the Raleigh-Fayette Regional Library in December 1959. Whether it should be called Raleigh-Fayette or Fayette-Raleigh Library was decided on the flip of a coin by Robert W. Bullen of the West Virginia Library Commission.
The library was headquartered in the Fayette County Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Building. (Where it still is today.) Library service to the public started in January, 1960. Acting Regional Librarian was Mrs. J. Edwin Stanfield of Fayetteville. The headquarters section (book processing, etc.) moved to Oak Hill in the 1980's.
The Fayetteville Library has grown in the last 40 some years. The library has: a fax machine, copy machine, public access computers, audio books, videocassettes, dvds, , interlibrary loans, magazines, a local and genealogical history section, story hour and, of course, books.
