To collect and preserve materials pertaining to Edgecombe County history. We also collect general North Carolina to help put Edgecombe County history in perspective.
To collect significant statewide reference works as well as genealogical sources and family histories pertaining to Edgecombe County, surrounding counties, and areas from/to which significant numbers of Edgecombe County residents emigrated/immigrated.
The Local History Librarian has the primary responsibility to collect and preserve old and current library materials pertaining to the history of Tarboro and Edgecombe County for use in meeting the research, educational, and recreational needs of its patrons.
The Librarian will selectively collect representative historical works and reference sources useful as background material: general histories of North Carolina and its people; treatments of localities in N.C. and subjects that, by comparison, help elucidate aspects of Edgecombe County and its people; and guides to historical and genealogical research.
The Librarian will collect such materials, including works by local residents, as are necessary to preserve the history of Tarboro and Edgecombe County. The Librarian will not actively solicit material pertaining to Rocky Mount.
The Library accepts the responsibility to preserve and make available for research all materials added to the local history collection.
The Library Outreach Department serves the homebound and the senior citizens of Edgecombe County. Books and audio books are delivered to homebounds and storytimes and reminiscing programming are conducted at senior sites and nursing facilities.
The Outreach Department is currently looking for volunteers to assist with crafts, storytelling, book selections, and other special projects.
