About Us:

East Liberty has been home to a Carnegie Library since 1905. The first East Liberty library opened on October 10, 1905 at Station St. and Larimer Ave., adjacent to St. Joseph's Convent, and one block north of East Liberty Station. CLP-East Liberty was the sixth of ten libraries planned in the city for the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh.CLP-East Liberty's fortunes followed those of the greater community and surrounding neighborhoods; enjoying robust activity and flourishing during the period when East Liberty was Pittsburgh's other downtown. As part of what we now recognize as an unsuccessful urban renewal effort, the original library was razed for the development that produced Penn Circle. In 1969 the library moved into its current location on Whitfield St (aka Ralph Munn Mall), across from the East Liberty Presbyterian Church.

The library continues to be an important presence in a community making progress in restoring its commercial and residential stability. The library maintains collections on two floors, has a 15 PC computer lab, and 18 more computers in different public areas of the library.
