HISTORY:
The Eagle Library was established in 1963 as a volunteer operation by Ruth and Norvall Ostroot. By 1967, the Library was housed in the Eagle Grade School and in 1968, the Library moved to 118 E. State, and the following year it moved to 67 East State Street. That same year, 1968, the Eagle Free Library District was created.
The Library District was dissolved in 1974 and the Library was absorbed by the City. In October 1975, the City hired its first Librarian, Diana Rutledge. She was followed by Glenda Willis in 1977 and by Ann Gallinger in 1980.
In 1998, 77% of Eagle voters approved a $2.85 million bond issue to build a new library. The 16,700 square foot library, was located at its present day location at 100 N. Stierman Way, opened in 1999.
Ronald Baker, who was appointed Director in in 2003 and remained with the Eagle Public Library until his retirement in 2012, guided the Library through its darkest moments during the Great Recession.
