HISTORY OF THE DUGGER LIBRARY
The Dugger Public Library had its beginning in the early 1900's through volunteerism---volunteered books and librarian services. It was housed in 2 or 3 buildings on Main Street.
Community fund-raising activities were held and community effort built a new municipal building on West Main Street. The building was dedicated on the evening of October 31, 1928. It is a two-story, tan brick building and the present library is housed on the top floor.
Dugger Public Library has had 6 previous librarians, including Gertrude Jefferies, Helen Hindman, Esta McLin, Maxine Myers and Nelle Holder. Our latest retiree was Ruby King, who retired in the year 2000.
