Downers Grove Public Library Mission Statement :

The Downers Grove Public Library provides collections, services, and programs that meet the community’s desire for information, literature, and entertainment.

The Vision of the Downers Grove Public Library :

Library users who are interested in popular culture, current events, the arts, and social trends will find collections that are up-to-date and that represent a broad range of opinions and perspectives.

Patrons will find collections with sufficient depth to provide access to classic literature and standard works that are timeless.

A well trained, customer service-oriented staff will serve as the link between patrons and the information they seek, guiding patrons in their selection and use of library materials and resources.

Special services such as readers advisory, reference assistance, programs on a variety of topics, and an art collection will make the library a destination that patrons will look forward to visiting.

Technology including on-line databases, virtual reference, and a library web site will extend access to many library services beyond the physical building and hours of service.

The library will provide patrons with the opportunity to try new information technologies, and to receive instruction in how to use those technologies.

Library services and programs will be designed to foster a life-long love of books and reading in children and adults; while outreach services will help to provide access to library services for homebound patrons who are not able to visit the library
