About Us
Colonial Heights Library is located at the corner of 21st Avenue and
Stockton Boulevard and serves people located within a nine-square-mile area.
The library opened in 1989, replacing the Mabel Gillis, Fruitridge and Oak
Park libraries. Surrounding the 12,000 square-foot building is a parking lot
for 100 cars and 25 bicycles. The library is easily accessible by public
transportation.
Colonial Heights has eleven Internet terminals for public use. There are
also two computers devoted to word processing and one typewriter that are
available to the public. Our collection has over 60,000 titles. The library
has a community room that is regularly used for library programs. The
community room is also available for community group meetings and
activities.
The Sacramento Public Library sponsors a Homework Center and a College and
Career Center at Colonial Heights Library. The Homework Center was opened in
September, 1998. The tutors are hired through Sacramento State University.
Students in the Teacher Credentialing Program are encourage to apply for
these positions. The center targets 3rd through 6th grades, but any student
wishing help can sign up for a specific time slot when space is available.
The College and Career Center was opened in March, 2001. Period workshops
are given on a variety of college and career-related topics.
