The library loaned over 15,000 materials. We borrowed 929 items from the NH State System and loaned 833 materials.
February was an exciting month. We joined the NH Downloadable Audiobook program with a grant from the Gates Foundation. Two MP3 players were purchased for patrons to use. Ninety-seven checkouts were credited to the library. We encourage patrons to explore the growing collection of audio books and use your library card to download audio books to your computer, transfer them to an MP3 player, or burn-selected titles onto a CD for listening on the go. Available 24/7, now your library is always open!
In March, and again in September, we applied to the Tillotson Foundation for monies to remodel the Children’s basement. The Young Adults need space of their own and this would open up the Children’s Room for the younger patrons.
Programs for the year included: Storyteller Simon Brooks, Wildlife Encounters, Alex the Jester, at the Summer Readers, cookout, The Museum of Science, Perly Gates at the Moose Festival, and a cultural look at Afghanistan presented by Hafiza Malikbaba and Rachel Lehr.
The New Hampshire Children’s Librarians started their own version of “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants”. We received one pair of pants early in the program to decorate and then passed them on. In the fall, we received the finished products (five pair of pants and a scrapbook of activities done by the different libraries.
October was a sad month, when assistant librarian, Rose James said goodbye to move to Dover. Kathy LaPierre jumped on board and has adjusted nicely to patrons and work.
We continue offering Storyhours on Wednesday mornings for our younger patrons. Teachers are encouraged to arrange visits for the year in September.
Movies have been suspended until the projector can be repaired but we hope to be up and running soon.
The Thursday night book club meets on the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. Books read and discussed over the year included: Annie Freeman’s Fabulous Traveling Funeral, Sister of My Heart, The Real All Americans, and Family Tree. Anyone with a love for reading books is welcome.
We received The “I Am Your Child” video series from the First Colebrook Bank and New Hampshire Children’s Trust Fund. This series gives practical advice to parents as their child grows.
I would like to thank the volunteers, who get items ready for the shelves every week and work on the book sale, the great Colebrook Cooks who donate to our bake sale and make it a great success, and last but not least, my Trustees who devote one night a month to making this a GREAT library.
