History:
Coburn Free Library was opened in 1912 and quickly became a magnet for readers and those doing research from Owego, NY and beyond. The growing book collection and ever-changing forms of media continue to make an important contribution to the appreciation and preservation of our Owego's heritage.
Founder Lucius Ford wanted to create an extensive reading collection that was accessible to the public, and actively sought to cooperate with state schools in an effort to improve education for the young. This philosophy has proven very successful and earned the library an award for educational excellence from Owego.
