About the Library
Christopher A. Parr Library is named for long-time supporter, Dr. Chris Parr, who has been a library advocate in a myriad of ways since 1972. From reading stories to children to lobbying for Plano libraries, Dr. Parr's dedication to Plano Public Library System spans over 34 years of steadfast service.
Throughout these years, Dr. Parr has been actively involved with Friends of the Plano Public Library, Library Advisory Board, and Plano Public Library Foundation. A member of the Friends since 1972, Dr. Parr served as Friends president from 1984 to 1991 and has participated in the Friends Annual Book Sale since the very first sale in 1983.
Dr. Parr was appointed to the Library Advisory Board in 1978 during which time he lobbied TeleCable for an institutional loop which provided the City free data transmission for fifteen years and saved thousands of dollars in communications costs. Dr. Parr served terms on the Plano Public Library Foundation board both as a Friends representative and as President. Aside from serving on the Foundation board, he offered volunteer and major financial support for Foundation fundraising events. Personally, he indexed and assumed financial responsibility for the publication of the book, "Plano, Texas: The Early Years " until project funds were raised.
It is with great pride that the Parr Library is named in his honor. The library opened on April 1, 2001.
