Mission Statement

The mission of the Charlotte County Library is to serve the educational, cultural, and recreational interests of all citizens of Charlotte County, thereby helping citizens attain the greatest possible fullness, productivity, and satisfaction in both their private and public lives.

In seeking to execute its mission, the library:

-selects, organizes, preserves, and provides easy access to a collection of materials designed, within local space and budget limitations, to meet the day-to-day information needs of county citizens.

-provides easy access, through networking and cooperation with libraries and other agencies, to information sources not held at the local level.

-facilitates access to information sources by providing skilled reference and referral service.

-serves as a cultural center for the county by sponsoring lectures, arts performances, exhibits, etc., and by providing a forum for public information-sharing.

-continually seeks to develop and expand its services to reach individuals and segments of the county population who for social, geographic, or other reasons, are unable to use the services of their library.

-actively promotes its own services.

-actively promotes the value of literacy in contributing to a full, productive, and satisfying life.

-actively promotes and defends the principle of free access to information and ideas, as an essential prerequisite for responsible citizenship in a democratic society.
