In 1900 the Olio Literary Club, Tuesday Club, and Fortnightly Club petitioned for a library. On Jan. 14, 1913, The Carnegie-Schuyler Library was dedicated. The money was donated by Andrew Carnegie and the land was given by then Mayor, H.N. Schuyler. The first Pana Library Board was organized in the YMCA with Capt. John W. Kitchell named president. The library and reading room were situated in the YMCA until the building was completed. The library is funded by the City of Pana, and governed by the Library Board.
The Carnegie-Schuyler Library has approximately 27,000 volumes in the permanent collection, with about 1,000 new copies added each year. Also available from the library, talking books, large print books, cassettes, videos, and a vast area of resource materials.
The Carnegie-Schuyler Library is a member of the Rolling Prairie Library System. You can use this system by asking your librarian to fill out a request form. In 1-2 weeks your requested item is sent to the library for you to check out for two weeks. There is usually no fee for this service, all you need is a current library card.
